Seemingly minor traffic violations can have cumulative effects on a driver's record. Accumulation of too many points because of traffic violations can lead to license suspension, special driving tests, hearings and written exams. As a result, it is important to be aware of the consequences of traffic violations.

- Failing to stop for a school bus with flashing lights (five points). Failing to stop for a school bus also results in a 60-day license suspension.
- Speeding (two to five points, depending on speed). Speeding in a work zone results in a 15-day suspension in addition to points. Exceeding the speed limit by 30 miles per hour is an automatic license suspension.
- Failing to yield to pedestrians (two to three points)
- Driving too fast for conditions (two points). Driving too fast for conditions in a work zone results in a 15-day suspension.
- Driving with a suspended license (DUI related) can result in a 60 to 120 day jail term
- • Driving with a revoked license
• Auto insurance violations
PennDot deals with excessive accumulation of points as follows:
When a driver accumulates six points for the first time, the driver will be required to take a written examination within 30 days or the license will be suspended. If the number of points is subsequently reduced and then rises to six or more, PennDot may require the driver to take a special on-road driver's exam, or order a 15-day license suspension. A third accumulation of six points requires the driver to attend a departmental hearing.
When a driving record reaches 11 or more points, the driver's license will be suspended for five days to one year, depending on the number of prior suspensions.
